7 July - Part 2
Today was a travel day for us. It started with a crazy bus from Positano to Sorrento. The trip was about 50 minutes, but all of it was zig-zagging back and forth.  We didn't get seats on the bus, so were standing with luggage rolling to and fro.  A woman starting feeling bus-sick and called to the driver "Sento male, sento male" (I feel sick) and he stopped the bus.  A woman sitting behind looked out the window at her and announced "Vomite."  I felt a bit sick myself--definitely preferred the ferry trip on the way over!  Then the fast train from Naples to Florence (Firenze). We do love these fast trains--very comfy, four seats with two facing two and a table in the middle so we can write, play cards, eat, etc.

Our first evening in Florence we decided to explore a bit and walked up to the Piazza Michaelangelo. This is one of the few high points in the city and a great view of everything.  A replica of David is here, along with (a bit off the beaten path) our Florence letterbox, which we eventually found.  We stamped our books, then decided to celebrate with gelato (of course).  Our suite is very nice, except no view.  We have the most hilarious washing machine--knobs and buttons with incomprehensible pictographs on them, no knobs, and a series of letters that look like settings but no way to change them or tell what they represent.  When I asked the woman at the front desk how to use the washing machine her oh-so-helpful answer was "It's all set up for you--just push the button."  Ha!  I spent some time looking up a user guide online and eventually deciphered it.  Clean laundry!  Not very dry, though.
